A Blast from the past-The Castle Inn

Found this picture of one of our local Hostelries!!  What memories. Chris and Ju, you would have memories of propping up the bar....Woodbines in hand, and a cool glass or two. What ambience...there's a lot to be said for the old fashioned way of life...and the old fashioned enjoyments too!!

Lateral Thinking

We tried to put up a shade for the plants, to protect them from the sun, but the poles were SO heavy, that even with David's(next door) help, we just couldn't manage it. So Jim saw these shade houses advertised in the Bunnings catalogue, and we thought "Why Not"?  So here it is...just shading the more delicate plants...a lot are OK. Anyhow, this morning, Jim saw....while surfing the net.... sails!  Quite cheap, and would probably be more practical. So we are thinking about it...and if we do decide to go that way, then we shall set up this little shade house on the lawn, and then, at last, I can get my outdoor setting, instead of the seats made from old bits of wood!  Not that I am complaining...they have lasted extremely well, but a nice padded seat would be even better, especially as I am rapidly approaching 'Codgerly-ness'!!!

Cinnamon Buns

I haven't posted a recipe for a long while, and when I spotted this in Best Recipes, (No.5299) I thought it was worth a shot. They taste fine, but turned out rather large!! Needless to say, this morning there are only a couple left, so looks aren't everything!!
I shall certainly try them again, and now I know to make them smaller....if I can. Still, I count them a success, for all their appearance, so now I shall go to the site and write a review of them.

Shed Update

For updates on the shed, see the pictures in the previous post!!  In other words...nothing has happened!  We  went away for a few days, so Jim could get over the trauma of shifting all his treasured possessions, hence, all is still just the same!! Sooner or later we will get round to organising the floor, but until such time...he is making do!!  We need a bit of cooler weather to get really motivated.

The Big Shed Renovation

Top part cleared out

Another View

Jim's make-shift office

The stuff had to go somewhere!
So the story is so far.....We have completely cleared the top half of the shed. Now we have to go to Mitre 10 and get some wood for the floor bearers, and then lay down the sheets of flooring chipboard. At the moment, everything that we have moved is in the bottom half of the shed...hence Jim on the computer surrounded by 'stuff'. Once the floor is down, then he can start to re-design the office area...benches where he wants them, and hopefully this will cut down on the dust a bit. We have a couple of old windows that he might put in  first, to give a bit more light, and then he can re-design to his hearts content.
This is a job that was long overdue, and it was the actual starting that was difficult to overcome. Once we were on the way, it was all systems 'go', so let's hope the finish goes just as well!! It would be nice to get it fairly sealed before next Winter!!

Fraser's Matchbox cars

We have been clearing out Jim's shed, so that we can lay a wooden floor down to stop all the dust. When we moved his old desk away from the wall, there behind, was a denim drawstring bag....labelled " Fraser", in my mum's stitching, and inside were his matchbox cars!! Still relatively dust-free.!! I have washed the bag, and it is out on the line drying, so here are the cars.....from your childhood Fra....... Of course, originally there were a lot more, but with the passage of time, they have disappeared.
Do you remember them?   Playing in the dirt in the garden. So long ago.

Hotmail

By now, we all know that soon Messenger will disappear. Already we have had 'glitches' with regard to using our Hotmail e mail. So I have decided to alert everyone that now I shall be using my G mail account. To this end, I have imported everything from my Hotmail account, so when the axe falls... I shan't be scrambling around to find contacts, e mails etc. How very annoying, but best to be prepared....Can't be out of touch with everyone!! Jim, as a learner, is finding change very difficult, and we had a considerable 'glitch' in transferring him to G mail. Hopefully it will be resolved, and in the meantime, I have managed to create a shortcut for him to reach his Hotmail inbox.
Tiff is in the same position, only worse. She has loads of clients that she has to reach...what a job.
On a lighter note...I bought some rather swish kitchen scales online. They arrived promptly today, and I am really pleased with them. Things can be weighed in ounces, pounds, grams or mls (for liquids). They have a smooth glass top, and are simple enough even for me to read!!  40% off, and prompt delivery....just what I like.

At Last!!

At last, the pond is finally finished. No fish, but the plants seem to be cracking on, so we shall leave it at that for now. Another job done!
